Hello. Try running the ePSA audio Quick Test. If you do not hear the sounds through the speakers during the tests then the speakers have failed or become disconnected at best, or the audio codec on the motherboard has failed at worst. The reason the headphone jack socket failed might be different -- sense pin failure in the jack, particularly considering the symptom you reported that at first you could get it to work a bit by wriggling the plug.

If you do hear the sounds during the test then try using Windows System Restore.

The speakers randomly started working again, but now have failed on me again after using a USB headset because the microphone has also gone out. Living in Costa Rica right now my access to tools is limited and I can't seem to find my screwdriver set, guess I'll have to go buy one and open it up. If the Audio codec has failed is there any solution short of a full Mobo replacement? (Dell Latitude E5530).

To add, I'm assuming it is a loose connection because I do have sound through my headset (Microsoft Lifechat USB headset).

I did the ePSA again without any sounds. I took the laptop all the way apart and looked over the connections, nothing was visibly loose, but I just unplugged it and plugged it back in again. Booted it up and still no sound. I tried a new round of drivers, reboots etc. Still nothing (plus system restore is not working for whatever reason on any restore point getting a can't read a file error, even after uninstalling MS Essentials).

I finally gave up and shut the computer down and it randomly made the shut down sound. Booted back up and it was working again.

The weird thing is too like some of the time when there's no sound it's like nothing is being sent, if you look at the VU nothing is being sent until I go to the sound panel and send a test tone, then sound starts getting pumped through.

Run the ePSA audio Quick Test. If you hear the tones through the speakers during the test then you do not have a loose connection.

If you do not hear the sounds through the speakers during the tests then it is either a loose connection, or the speakers have failed, or the codec has failed.

because I do have sound through my headset (Microsoft Lifechat USB headset).

All usb audio devices have their own audio codec built into the device, and their own driver in the form of the Windows native usb audio driver. The fact that a usb audio device  works does not imply anything about the integrated (motherboard) audio.

In answer to your earlier question, if the integrated audio codec fails the only repair is to replace the MB, but you could use usb audio devices as a workaround.

And the sound is out again, getting really frustrating, I'm not even sure where the loose connection could be if it is that. The sound worked fine even moving the laptop around etc, then I bring it back out of sleep mode and sound was gone. I try reboots, tapping on the area around the sound cable, etc. and it is just gone again.
