Latitude E6320 Battery Issues

Morning Dell Community,

I hope someone can help, i seem to be getting a lot of complaints in regards to the battery on the Dell latitude E6320 not lasting more than two hours:( I have also noticed that on my personal E6320 the battery seems to run dry very fast and i dont use and heavy programs.

Any one got any ideas/suggestions?

All machines running 64 Windows 7

Thanks

Rooshi

Battery Life depends on many factors including the age of the battery.  This is why you only get 1 year warranty on new batteries. You will not Get 8 hours or more nor will you Get 4 Hours or more.

Many Batteries are good for 1 Hour or less when you actually use the laptop.

You only get 2 hours or more when the laptop is on but sleeping mostly.

I have an E6320 which I bought last May. Under moderate usage (continuous word processing and web surfing via wifi, etc.), I still get about 6.5 hrs of battery life with the 6-cell battery.

Have Dell give you new batteries for several units to see if there was a defective batch ( I assume you're still under warranty).

Sorry Speedstep, but that is not an acceptable answer. Dell rates the battery as 4 hours, than you should reasonably get close to 4 hours of battery life, not the 2 everyone at my firm who has one of these models is getting. These laptops are only one month old, my personal laptop, which is a Lenovo Edge E420S, is rate for 7 hours of battery life and I get 6.5 hours, so you would assume Dell could design a better battery or a better charging system or both (and my Lenovo has a 6 cell battery as well). The laptops we replaced, the E6400 and E4300 actually got 4 hours on battery, but with each successive release, Dell takes a step backwards, whether it is design or function.

@hgratt - Good luck with getting Dell to swap out batteries, as I have 297 of these systems, and every single user has complained about battery life. When you research LiOn batteries, there is no way you can perform the suggested tips to prolong their life, which it to charge and discharge them completely three times right out of the box before using them. If this is true, then it is something the OEM (in this case Dell) should do before shipping them out (then you are supposed to do this every three months). The other tips are borderline asinine, such as when running on AC to remove the battery to enhance it's life/longevity. What Dell needs to do is to develop a battery recondition utility such as those employed by Lenovo and HP that will refresh your battery and return it to full life when it is no longer holding a proper charge. But, this still does not address Dell's failing of offering a battery that can last more than 2 hours when other companies routinely provide batteries that last 6, 9 and 12 hours.
