I just turned in my D-610 system for a D-830 (wow) so I can't give you complete details but I've done this before on various older Latitudes (LS, C-6xx) with no problems.

1. Go review the service manual at http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd610/en/sm_en/display.htm#wp1066876 for lots of pictures and instructions. If after reading the manual, if you're not comfortable doing it, seek help from a local professional. Avoid the big box stores.

2. A set of jewelers screwdrivers is really handy to have for this. The small blades are good for the screws and prying plastic parts apart without breaking the tabs.

3. Before you order off E-Bay, disassemble your display and get the exact part number off the inverter and screen. Make sure you're ordering an exact replacement. Make sure the display is tested for dead pixels and there's a warranty. Avoid "as-is" displays.

4. Follow the service manual instructions to remove the lid containing the LCD panel.

5. The displays on E-Bay typically don't include the plastic bezel around the display. To get that apart, pry the rubber pads off around the display. There are screws under the pads. Remove the screws and use a very small blade screwdriver to pry the two halves of the lid apart. Work slowly around the display to carefully pop the lid apart without breaking the tabs. Once you have split the lid, remove the screws holding the LCD panel in the lid. Be careful not to damage the connectors or the plastic. There may also be screws holding the inverter to the lid which you may have to remove.

6. Some of the connectors are not the normal plug-in type. The flat cables may be held in place by a sliding wedge-like latch. Look at where the connector attaches and see if there is part of the connector which slides and then you can pull the flat cable out.

7. Reverse the process to re-assemble the lid. attach the lid to the PC and test it before you completely re-assemble the PC.

8. Glue the rubber pads back on with a drop of rubber cement after you're sure it's working.

I hope this helps. Message Edited by jcn77056 on 10-05-2007 09:39 PM
