Did the Bluetooth work with Vista when you plugged in your bluetooth device? Bluetooth is not standard. It's an optional addon. Go to Control Panel and type Bluetooth in the Search box to see if you have it.

For more info, search for Bluetooth in Help and Support.

When I was using Vista my bluetooth was working. My bluetooth device was on the same switch as my wifi. I could toggle it on/off with the sofware I had from Dell (had a pictogram in the lower right corner), but now it seems Win7 can't find it. I tried to find it with the suggestion you gave me but with no results.

Cheers,

I have a very similar problem and would be very interested in knowing how this was resolved, if it was?

I recently reinstalled Vista on my XPS M1330, and my bluetooth disappeared.

When I try to install it, it tells me to turn it on before I continue, but I can't.

I tried opening the Bluetooth section on the support page, but it just tells me the page doesn't exist...

If I try to install it via the control panel I can't find it. I can't really find it anywhere. Needless to say I'm getting abit frustrated.

Thanks for any help I can get.

Hi Nick

Have you been able to solve your bluetooth issue on your XPS M1530 with Windows 7 (64 bit)? I just installed Win 7 (64 bit) and facing the same problem. Anything you can share? Thanks .. Bruno

I have documented a solution, please follow my wiki a clean install of Windows 7 wiki (link below). Use the Vista drivers available for everything except bluetooth for bluetooth see my note. "However for Bluetooth there are problems, if using 7 and there is no listed 7 driver then try installing R226750 If using an Inspiron model and R231570 if using a Latitude Model." - If one doesn't work try the other.

Hi

Thanks for your prompt reply. I installed the drivers you mentioned, but I believe my bluetooth was even working before, because I tried to add my Sony Ericsson Aino as a device is it showed U10i. However, it shows Status: Need Troubleshooting. Even after installing the above drivers.

The problem is I can't transfer a file from my phone to my laptop via bluetooth, i.e. from my phone, select the file and selects 'send via bluetooth'. But bizarrely, when I double click on U10i, it gives me an option to browse my phone and I can use the copy and paste function to move the file from my phone to my laptop.

Any idea what is the issue here?

Also thank you for your wiki links. One question thou, do we need to install all the drivers again? I noticed that some of them were installed directly by Win 7 64-bit or after the Windows update. One I have added was for the touchpad, but others like chipset, quickset, do we need to reinstall. I recall having done so when I had to reinstall my Vista 32-bit previously, but is it essential to do this again for Win 7?

Thanks again for your help.

Regards

If you follow my wiki, it takes you through a clean install.

I cannot recommend doing a direct "Upgrade".  Use your upgrade disc to do a clean install via "Custom (advanced)".

Hence you need to install all the drivers (in the correct order) after Windows 7 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is installed.

In my experience this offers much better performance that a non-clean upgrade. As for the Bluetooth use R226750 if your Bluetooth and Wifi switch is just Fn and F2. Use R231570 if it has a dedicated bluetooth/wifi switch on the side.

However before attempting a clean install follow below.

Computer>Uninstall or Change a Program

You are looking for "WIDCOMM bluetooth software", remove it. Next press [Windows] and [Pause|Break] (or right click computer and select properties). Select Device Manager.

In the device manager, you should uninstall  Dell Wireless xxx Module with Bluetooth... and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. Right click the device and select uninstall. Ensure you check "Delete the driver software for this device" in both cases. Reboot your computer.

Install R226750 if your Bluetooth and Wifi switch is just Fn and F2. Use R231570 if it has a dedicated bluetooth/wifi switch on the side. Once the installation is complete wait a few minutes and reboot. When you log in wait a few minutes and the press Fn and F2 (or switch the bluetooth/wifi off using the dedicated switch). Wait a few minutes and then press Fn and F2 (or switch the bluetooth/wifi on using the dedicated switch). Allow it to install the devices.

Try again. Note I am pretty certain R226750 will be the correct one for you as you share the Vista driver with the Inspiron 9400.

The XPS M1330 uses the Dell 355 Bluetooth Card. I had problems downloading it last weekend but it is available again now.<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>

I am still unable to install it as it doesn't detect the bluetooth card. I was having problems with bluetooth so tried reinstalling the driver - to do this you have to uninstall the existing bluetooth software. Now the install process won't run as it can't detect the bluetooth.

I have checked the wireless hardware switch. tried disabling bluetooth in setup, restarting the computer then re-enabling but still no bluetooth.

I seem to remember that there is a way of forcing a driver install using the Dell install software - has anybody any idea how to do this?

Regards

Bushy

See my post above although drivers are for the 370 and 360 respectively they both work with 355. It just depends on if you have fn and f2 as the WiFi switch (typically Inspirons) or a switch on the side (typically Latitudes). I am not sure about yours but one of the two will work. Also remove any previously installed drivers via my instructions above before trying to install either for best results.

Sorry, should have made clear that my post was a follow on from Jahaan's.

I am running Vista on an XPS M1330.

I have resolved my problem by using the Patch R159805. This got the bluetooth adaptor working and I managed to pair with other devices but still couldn't get them to connect. Windows was asking for peripheral device drivers. I tried installing various packages from Dell for the 3xx series of adaptors but in the end used an upgrade of the Widcomm software from cnet downloads.

Interestingly the Dell 355 software for Vista kept coming up with "This software requires Vista".

Update: tried the cnet software, but this reported that it couldn't detect any bluetooth hardware.

So it looks as though I need the patch R159805 suggested by Bushy2301 above.

However the link supplied appears to be incomplete

"www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>

doesn't seem to point to anything.

Searching for R159805 also doesn't seem to show anything.

Just found this thread, and I have the same symptoms:

XPS M1530 running Vista 32 bit

Bluetooth driver problems

Uninstalled Widcomm drivers.

No sign of bluetooth hardware in Hardware Manager.

Online diagnostics for Bluetooth links to a missing page.

Now the recommended driver install asks me to turn on Bluetooth or cancel.

However I have a single switch on the side of my XPS for wireless/bluetooth and it is on - tried switching it off and on but still no driver install.

The replies above (as far as I can tell) relate to installing the Windows 7 drivers.

Is there a solution for re-installing the Vista 32 bit drivers?

The post immediately above from Bushy2301 includes a link to a patch which is not currently available.

I haven't tried the cnet driver download yet.

Aaaaahhhhhhh!

Followed another thread and the answer is simple (although counter intuitive)

If you go to Control Panel -> Bluetooth Devices and click on the Bluetooth Settings tab you will see a tick box for "Turn Off the Bluetooth Adapter".

I unticked this, and Vista immediately started re-installing the driver.
