M4700 - No Splash Screen during boot - When Docked
Dell Precision M4700 Workstation will not display Dell Boot-(splash) screen when connected to E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator with USB 3.0. The system will load MS Window, but it will not display the Windows startup screen. The first sign of video activity is windows desktop. I have no problems with the system after booting into windows.
When disconnected from the docking station, the M4700 boot normally.
Thanks –James

Hi James,
I also have the same issue where the screen won't display on the monitor, made more of an issue by the fact that the drive is encrypted by Bitlocker. This means that the user must leave the laptop open until they have entered the Bitlocker password and then, only once Windows has started to load, will the monitors display a picture.
Tried updating to the A05 BIOS, also changed power adaptors and tried different cable types (DVI and DP) but still no display.
Hopefully someone out there can help!
Thanks - Andrew

Again this is starting to become a nuisance...Have you had any luck resolving the problem?

I am having the exact same problem. However I did not have this issue with me Dell Latitude E6410 using the exact same docking station. I undocked the Latitude and docked the Precision and monitors are dark. It also looks like the laptop screen comes on even though the lid is closed.
It really makes it hard to get excited about this new machine and advocate for it with coworkers when you have to do these workarounds to get it to work correctly

Same issue.
I have a Dell Precision M4700 and a Dell Latitude E6510. I also have two docking stations, both E-Port Plus, one is new with USB 3.0 and the older one (about 2 years) just has USB 2.0 but otherwise identical.
The M4700 displays BIOS and Bitlocker on the laptop screen even while docked with the screen closed but the E6510 correctly sends the display to the attached monitors. Issue has been replicated on both docking stations.
Thanks!

Hi all, maybe it is not THE solution, but it was MY solution: disable nvidia Optimus (en.wikipedia.org/.../Nvidia_Optimus) in BIOS.
After that and some automatic driver updates for the nvidia everything works fine again.
Have a nice day ─ Marco
