Maximum memory for Vostro 1700

Hi.

I know the maximum amount of memory advertised for the Vostro 1700 is 4GB RAM, but often these specs change.  I want to know if 8GB RAM installed in my Vostro 1700 will work.  Might there be a BIOS update to enable this, or has anyone tried this to see if it would just work?

Thanks.

I'm assuming you are running 64 bit windows?

Note 2×4Gb RAM Modules may be very costly (approx $400) and probably not worthwhile at the moment.

Hi.

I never tried 8GB in my Vostro 1700.  I just settled for 4GB.  I never found out of 8GB would be recognized.

Maybe to late for you:

I'm running with 6GB under Windows 7 X64.

One of  problems I have:

some USB-Devices will not found the actual drivers on this maschine (Windows Phone with WP7)

And the integrated Webcam is not working (driver missing).

I am sorry I am writting here. I am kind of lost. What kind of external memories are supported by the Vostro 1700?

I had a problem trying to put one of them...

Thank you.

No, I am talking about the memories that are inserted at the right side of the VOSTRO 1700.

I need to ask something different. Dell is deleting my posts cause an e-mail appears as my user name, but they don´t tell me how to change it...Somebody know where to change my USER NAME directly?

You can get a 8GB set on ebay for $129.00 (i do not have the Vostro 17) but do have XPS 1730 running with 8GB on 32 bit Vista and have 6.75GB usable.

Hello:

I am talking about the memory cards that you can insert at the right side of the Vostro 1700. I would like to know what kind of memory cards are supported cause I tried to put one of them, but it didn't fit.

Thank you for your attention!

When  I upgraded my Vostro 1700 to 4 gb memory, my A.07 version bios and  Windows  64-bit 7 Ultimate recognized all of it, despite that fact that every reference I found said 3.5 gb was the limit for this bios.   So even tho I love the massive 17'' screen,  I just recently moved this 4 y.o. Vostro 1700  to my secondary laptop. It was simply too slow for the way I bounce between 20-30 open web pages and  3-7 open word documents.

But .....  when I can find memory at  decent price I plan on doing an upgrade to 6-8 gb simply to test it out.

Dell Vostro 1700, Intel Core Duo T 7250, Windows 7 Ultimate, Dual Fujitsu 120 GB drives, 2 x 2GB Hynix DDR2-800,  nVidia GeForce8600 M GT,  A.07 bios, 16GB Readyboost

Dell Precision m6600, Intel  i7 2760 QM, Windows 7 Professional, Crucial 256 GB SSD, Seagate Momentus 750 GB., 2 x 8GB Crucial PC3-10600, AMD Firepro M8900, A.06 Bios
