Memory Bus Speed

I have an Inspiron 1720 with 2gb of ram 667MHz bus speed my processor is an Intel core 2 Duo T7250 2.0GHz with a bus speed of 800MHz. I have just recently purchased 2 x 2GB 800MHz memory modules, which i havce installed and all seems to be working fine apart from in the bios it indicates that the memory bus speed is still 667MHz. My question is how do i update / change / reconfigure this to read the correct bus speed or will it always say 667MHz but be actually runnign at 800MHz. Ihave tried the memory modules in a colleges laptop to check that they are actually 800MHz bus speed which in his Toshiba laptop does indicate that they are 800MHz, I have also tried his 2 x 1gb 800MHz modules in my inspirion but even though it states that the memory is 2gb the bus speed is till showing 667MHz. Please can someone advise me on this problem.

Many thanks.

JulianSelby,

My reply might not help but atleast let you understand why your memory can't run at 800MHz.

Check this out, its the Specification of your laptop.

The spec is on page 179-180.

Memory module connector two user-accessible SODIMM connectors

Memory module capacities 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB

Memory type 667 MHz SoDIMM DDR2

Minimum memory 1 GB

Maximum memory 4 GB

Thank you for that information so i take it that the memory bus speed will only alllow a maximum bus speed of 667MHz even thought the cpu and new memory run at 800MHz.

That's essentially correct, though the memory runs at 333 MHz - the DD in DDR is "double data" - the effective speed is twice the actual bus speed.
