Memory Integrity Failure Dell Inspiron 1525 HELP!!

Having preformed a recent reformat of my Dell Inspiron 1525 I have been running into an issue with it going to the BIOS screen, i think thats what its called, it goes to this blue screen and i have to force shut down. I am able to preform a system restore just fine but it always ends up crashing. I ran DELL DIAGNOSTICS and received the following message.

ERROR CODE:0123

2000-0123

MEMORY INTEGRITY FAILURE.

LOCATION: DIMM-B

ADDRESS=0_8CB60214h

ACTUAL=00080000h

EXPECTED=00000000h

I'm running Windows Vista OS SP1 32-bit, Windows updates fails when i install SP2.

I am not very computer savvy, i have done some research suggesting that i reset my RAM modules, i feel confident enough to do that but i wouldn't know what the RAM module looks like. Any guidance or support would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Ferg88.

     I've linked the service manual for your Inspiron 1525 below. It will show you where the memory is and how to remove and replace it. You will need a small phillips (+) screwdriver to access the memory module bay. Try re-seating the modules before continuing on the the next paragraph.

     Since your Dell Diagnostic shows the error on DIMM-B remove that module completely and see if you still get the error from Dell Diagnostics. If it works properly you will need to purchase a new memory module (PC2-6400 or PC2-5300 SODIMM Non-ECC) which can be purchased anywhere from Best Buy to eBay, You'll probably get the best deal on DDR at tigerdirect or newegg ...but it's up to you where to buy it. If you feel like you need to gather more information about the Memory error you can run an in-depth test using the free version of MemTest86 available at http://www.memtest86.com/ It takes a long time to run but it will find and list pretty much anything wrong with the memory module.

     If this answer was helpful please remember to hit the YES button and if you need further assistance don't hesitate to contact.

*NOTE: Here's the link to the service guide so you will know how to find and remove the memory modules as needed.

    Glad to help. The second link on my original reply will take you to the service manual. If you save this file it will open with adobe reader and be much easier to use. It has all the information you need indexed on the first page in blue (linked to page for procedure) Good luck and let me know if re-seating helps. It's always nice to hear a success story.

     If that helped you out please remember the YES button. if you need further assistance don't hesitate to contact.

Ferg88,

     You're most welcome. I'm glad we got the problem isolated. The memory (pc2 sodimm non-ecc) is pretty affordable. Like most current and previous generation laptops, you will find a significant performance difference operating the system on one module vs. two. I recommend you purchase a replacement module at your nearest convenience. Here's a link to the Crucial Memory Tool. You don't have to buy it here but it will tell you exactly what will work best. Here's that link just click on it.

Update: Well, your advice has proven perfect. I bought 4G of pc2-6400 today and install was a success, ran diagnostics and everything Passed. Do you have any suggestion on maybe a link to something showing me any way to maximize performance with my newly added RAM? I know i have an old computer and 4G isn't much but I only had 2.5G before this. Anyways thanks again for all your advice!! HUGE HELP!!

Hi Ferg!

     That's AWSOME! So glad I could help. don't worry too much about "optimizing" your memory. simply having one module in each slot  provides double the performance having just the one. and since you bought 4Gb PC2-6400 You're getting the highest speed available in your memory class at nearly true 800Mhz on that computer. and are at listed capacity! Nicely done. You're good for another 100,000 miles!
