Memory Module Reseat Failed. Now What?

I have a Dell Studio 1535 Laptop from 2008. I got an error message telling me to reseat the memory modules. I looked up how to do that and did it. I tried to boot it back up and still have the same error. I did try to reseat again and I am still getting the error. What should I do next?

Run the Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup).  It should identify the faulty module (1 or 2).  Then swap the two - if the error follows the module to the other socket, replace the module.  If it sticks to the other module in the same socket that showed the first failure, it's the socket that's bad. Replace the mainboard.

Good Morning

Thank you for contacting the community.

As ejn63 stated.  The best thing to do, if all diagnostic tests have passed, is to try each of the memory modules 1 at a time.  then swap them over, and test them in the opposite slot 1 at a time.  If the fault follws the memory stick, then that may indicate an issue with that stick, if it stays with the slot, then you may have an issue with the slot on the motherboard.

Do you have a like for like system, where you can swap memory from and test?

Regards

Kevin
