Microphone feedback

Question

I just purchased a Inspiron 1501, and wish to be able to play music out to a stereo, while at the same time use a microphone, similar to a DJ. The problem, is that no matter what I do, or, what settings I change, I always have feedback, and serious delays between talking, and playback, mixed with a constant reverb, or echo. If I mute the Playback, then the Mike doesn't work at all, when talking. Finally, I am sure that I should not have to run any other programs, to use the Microphone, but I always have to have some audio media program running, when using the microphone. I do not have this problem on either my 4700, or, E-510, desktops. I am using Sigma Tel Audio.

Look at the sticky post 'Inspiron-Audio FAQ' and the question 'Why can't I hear sounds from a microphone or music player plugged into the Mic Jack?'

Follow the 2nd set of instructions, those for models with the Sigmatel 92xx chip. This should allow you to directly monitor the mic jack. Thereafter use the mutes in the volume control to eliminate echoes.

(The 1501 is a new model and is not listed in the instructions, but they should work for it.)
