Mini 9 not charging

I've read a bunch of posts about Mini 9 batteries crapping out. Mine won't charge and the orange light is blinking. The battery icon reads 0% when the AC is plugged in and if I unplug it the computer shuts off. I've tried restarting, wake/sleep, unplugging and plugging in again but no dice. Saw a post about Airplane mode but I don't have that-I'm running Mac OS 10.5.6 on mine.

The machine is a little over two years old so the battery could be dead but I want to make sure I exhaust all possibilities before I cough up for a new battery. And where would you all recommend where to get a new battery if I need a new one?

Does the BIOS (F2 at powerup) recognize the adapter, or is it listed as "unknown"?  If it's unknown, replace the adapter with a new Dell OEM unit.  IF that doesn't fix it, the system will need repair or replacement of the system board.

I'm not sure what you mean-what "adapter"? I don't press any key after I press the power on button; it just starts.

It does seem like the battery died really quickly-but I've read where these batteries can do that. What does the blinking orange light mean?

Thanks for the quick response.

Go into the BIOS setup (f2).  See if the AC adapter is listed -- it should be, along with its power rating.  If it's listed as "unkown", something is wrong with the adapter or the mainboard.

Yes, it will - the BIOS is accessed before the system even begins loading the operating system.

If I press f2 nothing happens except it highlights a picture file I have on my desktop!

You need to press F2 (perhaps a  couple of times) right after you power on the system (NOT while WIndows is running).  That will get you into the BIOS setup.

Will that work with Mac OS? I am running Mac OS 10.5.6 on my Mini 9.
