Missing Graphics Card

I recently ordered the Inspiron 17 5748. In the invoice for the order it specifies having a GeForce 840M 2GB video card. I received the laptop but noticed less than impressive performance and found out that the graphics card being used is an Intel HD. After checking the device manager there is no sign of the video card I'm supposed to have and any nVidia drivers I try to install for the video card claim that I do not have the hardware.

Am I missing something or did I just not receive the laptop I ordered? I'd upset as I ordered this laptop earlier in the month for a trip I'm taking Monday and only received it a few days ago, finding out the problem last night. Dell's customer support is closed on the weekend except the support chat which constantly gives me server side errors. If this is in fact a driver issue, help will be appreciated or at least confirmation that I did not receive the laptop I ordered with no time to get a replacement before I am gone for a month.

The 5000 series looks like it's Intel-only.  The version with the Intel-nVidia hybrid video is the 17-7000 series with the touchscreen - starting price is $1150.

When I ordered the laptop from the site it said it came with the GeForce 840M and my email invoice claims the same. I'd have no use for this laptop otherwise. The video card is the main reason why I got it.

If the system's operating system is as configured by Dell (i.e., you didn't reinstall it or install an OS yourself) and you don't see an entry for the nVidia chip in the device manager, arrange a return for refund.  Interestingly, that model no longer shows up on the US Dell website - it may be the current production is Intel-only.
