My Dell thinks it is a HP???

So a few weeks ago I updated my dell inspiron to windows 8.1, this created issues such as a loss of administrator rights and when I attempted to fix it by merely creating another user and boot it up in safe mode I got caught in a never ending cycle of restarting my laptop. After many attempts to fix this issue I eventually gave up and decided to use a recovery disk and wipe all my data which worked but now I am faced with a new issue... my dell thinks it is an HP laptop as the recovery drive used was from an hp laptop... how do I get dell out of this identity crises?
