No Power Up only blinking caps light

I have a Dell D505 Latitude. On power up only the 2 lights on the right hinge come on then the cap lock light blinks a couple times then the machine powers itself down. What is the symptomatic
of? Previous thread on this subject had no answer.

Maybe something with the power supply but not really sure. Does the same thing happen on both battery and when plugged in?

Yes, exact same sequence of flashing lights on caps lock and lights on hinge...what the heck is this?? Of course, it ran out of warranty

The first thing I would do is reseat everything removable. If that doesn't work, you probably need a motherboard or processor. If you are comfortable working on things you might try downloading the service manual for your system and reseating the CPU.

My Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook had the same problem. When trying to turn on my notebook, only the Cap locks light would flash a several times and the notebook would turn off. I read a message about checking the RAM and make sure it was seated properly, which helped me fix the notebook. I did use Dell's manual to see how to remove the RAM safely before I started. It ended up being a bad RAM module. What I did: Reseated both 512 RAM module on the bottom of the notebook. It did not work, then switched the RAM modules in the 2 different slots - still no luck. Removed one of the RAM sticks - no luck. Switch the RAM to the other slot - no luck. Finally, removed that RAM and tried the other RAM. It worked!!Checked the RAM in the other slot and it still worked, that's when I knew it had to be a bad RAM. I went down to Fry's Electronics and bought a 1GB RAM DDR2 for about $40 and put it in the empty slot and it is working fine. "Use DDR2 ONLY" was written inside the RAM area, so if your shows that make sure you get that king of RAM.Thanks to who ever posted that message!
