No speaker or Headset plugged in

I have Inspiron N4010. I have properly installed all the latest drive to my system. But still my Audio is not working. I'm getting a X mark on my sound icon. I'm running with this problem for so long time. I went to shop asking for a repair. Even it is not helping me out. Goggled for a solution but I cant find any positive one.

I think, you have discussed this topic before. But I have other concern in this, at this time (No speaker or Headset plugged in) if I use a USB audio device, will audio work for the USB audio device?

If it not works please suggest me what is the possible way to get my audio back.

A usb audio device is a separate audio system from the laptop's internal Realtek audio system, so even if the Realtek hardware is damaged a usb audio system will still work. If the usb audio does not work then there is something wrong with Windows.

please suggest me what is the possible way to get my audio back.

If the Realtek hardware has failed then the only way to get the internal audio working again is to replace the motherboard. To find out if the Realtek audio has failed you should run the audio tests in Dell 32-bit Diagnostics.

Another way to test the hardware is to perform a system recovery, but that is a more involved process.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't have 32 bit Diagnostics test. But I tried with the Diagnostics test. I'm getting the beep sound. I would take that I have no problem with my audio device connected to motherboard.

When trying the formulas in the given link, I tried Compared drivers. In my device manager for Audio device, I have High definition Audio device is named. It says to reinstall again and again to replace the native windows driver. So far I tried 10 times over. But still the same High Definition Audio Device is located on the Audio support. What is the possible way to replace the manufacturer driver for laptop.

If manufacturer Audio driver is replaced, then I would be getting my sound back?

"High Definition Audio Device" if the name of the Windows native driver. That seems to be what you have right now.

"Realtek ...." is the name of the vendor's driver. Realtek is the company that made the audio hardware used in the Inspiron 14R N4010.

To get the Realtek driver, go to the N4010 support page, select your operating system (either Windows Vista or 7), then expand the Audio category and download the Realtek driver.

But I tried with the Diagnostics test. I'm getting the beep sound. I would take that I have no problem with my audio device connected to motherboard.

If you hear the beeps it just means the speakers have not failed or become disconnected. You can get the Dell 32-bit Diagnostics from your support page but you have to install it to a dvd or usb drive to run it. Instructions here.

If manufacturer Audio driver is replaced, then I would be getting my sound back?

Installing different drivers is part of diagnosing the problem. Until the problem has been diagnosed and the cause of it known, no one can predict what what will cure the problem. Installing a driver might get your sound back. Or the driver might refuse to install at all. Won't know until you do it.

Once the problem has been diagnosed then one can easily say how to fix it. The difficult part is performing the diagnosis, particularly with incomplete or missing knowledge about the computer, such as its history, its operating system, the results of the 32-bit Diagnostics, etc.
