Noise while battery is charging

I'm new to the forum and have found many of the postings very interesting. My inspiron 8000 makes sort of a "whirring" or "whistle" noise while the battery is charging. The noise is originating in the rear of the computer and can also be heard within the AC adaptor. The noise seems to occur in pulses that last in cycles of around 2 seconds on and 2 seconds off. The computer has made this noise ever since it was new. I called tech support when the machine was new and the tech was not able to offer any suggestion. Since the machine was running fine otherwise, I just ignored it. I thought I'd just take a minute to see if anyone else has had a similar occurance. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond..

The same thing is occurring in my Inspiron 600m. It makes a faint buzzing or whistling noise in the AC adapter converter box. I find that it also does it more when the computer is off (recharging battery) or idle. I also contacted tech support and they didn't really know either. They said I might want to get a new adapter.

Mike I can help you. I use my Dell for DJ work.  I play music from the laptop to a 750 watt amplifier.  When I plugged in the brand new Dell laptop the charger while plugged in would make a horrible squeeling and would buzz when the mouse was moved. when i put head phones on the sound was not audible. I switched power chargers with one from my other Dell laptop and it did the same thing. out of frustration I cut off the ground prong on my extention cord to stop the ground loop and Boom the obnoxious noise went away forever. It took me three days looking for a solution and it was fixed with a pair of side cutters. Peace at last. I hope it works for drop me a note if it works Pkhead54@aol.com
