The most current BIOS A09 for the 6500 may be downloaded from the following link.

www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

The most up to date Windows 7 video driver is available from the this link

www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

You may have to uninstall the video driver completely from the system before attempting to download and reinstall the latest driver.

If your system does have A09 installed but you aren't able to install the video driver it is possible the GPU may be defective.   If you would like for me to look into this further please reply back and include the steps that you have taken to troubleshoot, including when the problem started, please also include the operating system that you are using.

Terry,

You misunderstood jedgal's question. It is not about the BIOS of the M6500 but about the Firmware of the Dell version of the Quadro 5000M.

I have the same issue right now. I tried to upgrade my M6500 with the Quadro 5000M but it doesn’t work as expected.

The A10 BIOS of the M6500 recognizes the Quadro 5000M correctly (name, memory size,...) but under Windows 7 it only shows up as Standard VGA adapter.

I tried the A00 and the A01 drivers for the NVIDIA Quadro 5000M that are listed at the M6500 driver download page – both fail to install because they fail to detect compatible hardware (= fail to recognize the Quadro 5000M).

I also tried the latest Quadro Notebook video card drivers from NVIDIA (released Feb 2014), but they also fail to recognize any compatible hardware and abort installation.

I even tried the NVIDIA Smart Scan utility ( http://www.nvidia.com/Download/ScannForce.aspx?lang=en-us) to automatically detect the video card and suitable driver. But it came back telling me that this video card needs a specific driver from the laptop manufacturer.

By searching the forums here I found that the Quadro 5000M was dropped as an option for the M6500. Was this due to compatibility issues or was there something wrong with the custom firmware of the video card?

Is there a special twist to making this card work in the M6500?

My M6500 has the following specs:
Processor: Intel® Quad Core i7-940xm
RAM: 32 GB / 1600 MHz (4x 8 GB Corsair Vengeance)
Video Card: nVidia Quadro 5000M 2GB (Dell P/N D73P8)

In my case the problem was related with Quadro 5000m Hardware ID, instead of Dell hardware ID(1028) my graphic card had Nvidia ID(10DE). So the only solutions I've found were to soft modded drivers by adding my hardware ID to driver INF file or to change hardware ID in graphic card bios using Nvidia Fermi bios editor.

Hi Jedgal - I'm trying to install a Quadro 5000m into my m6500 right now.  Would you mind giving details on how you flashed your graphics card bios?  I' have intermediate computer skills but have not done this before and do not know the best/correct tools (fermi bios editor 1.55?) or where to find the current vbios to call it up and make changes.  Thanks!!

Hi. Can you describe your problem in details and can you also send me screenshot from TechPowerUp GPU-Z (you have to download it) I would like to see what is your 5000m Device ID and Subvendor.

Same issue as yours was.  NVIDEA 10E ID needs to be changed to Dell ID so I can install drivers.  Just need to know some details on how to do it properly.  Thank You!!!

Hi, I've found my modified bios for 5000m, here's a link:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mxu4npyqyab3hoo/USB%20flash%20tool%20for%20NVIDIA%20GPU%27s%20%2BFermi%20BIOS%20guide.zip

Inside there is a "New Folder" where you can find all files needed to flash Bios. All you have to do is to create bootable usb stick and copy files from New Folder to USB Stick.

Remember to Save your current bios before you flash your GPU.

And that's how it should look after you flash it

Hey I have an M6400 and have heard that the 5000m will work for this. I have the 5000m but when I installed it windows only recognized it as a Standard Vga adapter, I think it has something to do ith the bios. Your download link doesn't work. Do you think you can help me

Edit: Nevermind I managed to find the correct bios and flashed it via nvflash
