PCI Device driver problem.

In device manager, a hardware name, "PCI Device" with an exclamation point to the left side of the word. It doesn't gives the specific name of it, so I won't be able to fix it. But I'm assuming this is causing my cd/dvd problem during when I first boot up the computer before BIOS. "module cannot be detect".

I have an Inspiron 6000d. This is the location of it: PCI bus 3, device 1, function 2
Does anybody knows what it suppose to be?

Did you reinstall the system after which you noticed this problem?

If you are talking about the operating system than NO. Actually, when I first recieved the notebook and use it for one day. I reformat windows xp home and install windows xp PRO. I have been browsing the net and hoping for others to have the same problem but no luck. I still don't know what the problem is.

I actually got the same think in Device Manager right after I reloaded Windows XP pro. I definately know that it is one of the drivers that is missing. It just that I can't figure out which one. I installed everything that the Dell driver downloads offers. All of my drivers are OK expect this Pci Device. For a moment I thought it was the SD card reader since that is the only thing that doesn't work currently, but I don't think SD card reader has any drivers doesn it?

Yes! All hardware/module needs a driver in order to be recognize.

Anyways, the weird thing about the cd/dvd drive, when thte bois doesn't recognize it when it is first boot up. It would recognize it when I reboot the system. First, I thought it has to deal with the primary/slave of the hard drive and the cd/dvd drive. But when I unmount two of the module, there wasn't any switch for it, so that can't be the problem. I'm all out of ideas.

I really don't want to send my notebook back to dell because I know it gonna takes a long time to get it back and I really need my computer to do my work. There are a lot of problems relating to this on the dell forum and none of the Dell Moderator suggestion is helping.

I wonder if this progblem is relating on for those people that reinstall Windows XP?

I found the driver. And I was correct. It was the SD card reader. I'll try to find the link and post it here. I actually found the link in this Dell Community Forum. But unfortunately did not write it down. I just downloaded the file and installed the driver.

This stupid driver is not on the resource cd. It wasn't even categorized under the downloads for my laptop's drivers. It was under External Peripherals or something like that. Just search on dell's website. It's hidden somewhere.

That's good. I have try searching in that forum but I can only find the SD reader driver for Windows 2000. If you are be able to find the link again, would you please post it on here for me? After getting the driver for the SD reader, does it fixes your cd/dvd problem?
