Power button on the new XPS 14 Ultrabook

Hi All,

Was just wondering if the power button lights up/glows on the new XPS 14 Ultrabook during start up/boot( just like how the other keys are backlit)

Also, if it indeed does, does it remain lit until the system is shut down?

Many thanks

Hi swasid,

Yes, you are correct! The Power Button is to switch On/Off the computer and the Power Indicator light is for checking the status of the computer.

Hi Kalyan,

I was actually talking about the power button icon which is on the top left of the keyboard. I am currently using a Latitude E5420 and this button will light up during start or restart and continue to remain lit until the laptop is in usage. Just wanted to know if the behaviour is the same on the XPS 14 Ultrabook as well. can you clarify please?

Hi swasid,

The power indicator for XPS 14 Ultrabook is located centrally below the touchpad. Please refer to the following picture:

If the laptop is connected to an electrical outlet, the power indicator light operates as follows:

If the laptop is running on a battery, the power indicator light operates as follows:

Note: The Power Button does not have an LED and it will not glow.

Please do reply if you have any further questions.

Hi swasid,

In Latitude E5420, the Power button has an LED in the background and it acts as the power indicator for it. The icon that you have referred to which is on the upper left hand corner next to the keyboard is the power button. This power button does not have an LED in the background. This is the reason the Power Indicator has been designed for this system.

Please revert for any clarifications.

Hi Kalyan,

so what I understand is- unlike rest of the keys on the keyboard ( which glow when you turn on the backlit function) the power button itself will never be lit  either during startup or while in use to indicate that the system is running. Is that right? You press the power button to start and then look for the power indicator (that you have shown) to check the status

Many thanks.
