Precision M3800 Problem with Thunderbolt

Hi,

I don't see the Thunderbolt device on the device manager. I've installed all the updates and the BIOS A10, but the Thunderbolt don't seem to work.

What is the solution?

This system shipped in 2014. Is this the first time you have tried to use the leftside Thunderbolt port? What Thunderbolt devices have you tested? What operating system are you running?

Run the free Intel Driver Update Utility and see if it installs any missing drivers. Once installed, Click Start- Intel Driver Update Utility- Intel Driver Update Utility 2.0. Then click "Auto detect...".

Is it really a Thunderbolt port or maybe just a Display port?

I just bought this computer 2 weeks ago refurbished. I have tested a Sound card Saffire Focusrite Pro 24 DSP with a Firewire 400 to 800 adaptor + a Firewire 800 to thunderbolt adaptor. I've read that this kind of conversion of the signal is working. The soundcard is not the problem : I tested it on my other computer.

I use Windows 10 Pro.

I tried the Driver Update Utility : no apparent problem with the driver.

I'm unable to see the Thunderbolt driver in the device manager. It is like the Thunderbolt don't exist. What is the name (or what should be the name) of the Thunderbolt in Device Manager?

Thanks

The Precision M3800 sold in two versions, one with Mini Display port =

and another with Thunderbolt =

Notice the white icon right of the port is different. The Thunderbolt port has a jagged lightning bolt icon. Is yours picture 1 or 2?

No, you cannot change the port on the motherboard if you have the Mini Display port.
