Precision M90 Power-on problems

Hello, I bought a Dell Precision M90 notebook a month or so ago and it has been a nice machine. However, I've had some occasional problems when powering up the machine. Every now and then, the machine powers up but I see no Dell logo on the screen. The machine just stays blank and I have to press the power the button to turn it off again. After I press power again, most of the time it does the same thing. So I turn it on and off, on and off, on and off, etc. until after several goes, it will start up normally (Dell logo showing up). One thing I've noticed is that the Bluetooth indicator (which is usually on during bootup) isnt on when this problem occurs. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a bios update that fixes it? Or should I get Dell to fix it? Thanks

QuantumKnot,

Please contact Dell.  I am not sure of the nature of the problem, but if you are not getting the Dell logo, then it is a hardware problem.

You can try removing the floppy drive or CD-Rom drive, the battery, any PCMCIA cards, the hard drive and all but one memory module (if you have more than one), and then try restarting the system on AC power.  You should come to a message that says, No Operating System found.  If you do, reassemble the system one piece at a time and try restarting after each piece to see if one of them is causing a problem.

Obviously, try it several times, both without the parts, and as you reassemble the system.
