Primary vs Secondary Batteries

Call me a newbie but I'm not sure I understand the difference between a Primary and Secondary battery.

I've got an Inspiron 4100.  The bays seem interchangeable.  My battery will go in either bay and be recognized.

Yet a Dell primary battery is 59WHr and costs $130 vs a Secondary battery which is 66WHr and costs $109.

Difference?

Thanks,
Donald

There is no difference, other than what you've listed (cost, WHr). The battery will work in either bay, as you've seen. The term primary and secondary battery would only come into play when you have two batteries in the system. The batteries you've mentioned will do the same thing as each other, and would work individually.

There must be some difference.  Otherwise why would Dell charge more for a smaller battery?

59WHr/$130 (primary)
vs
66WHr/$109 (secondary)

Maybe someone at Dell could chime in?  I didn't find much on it on Dell's site.

Thanks again,
Donald
