Problem with BIOS at start up in Inspiron 15
The system starts up displaying the usual DELL logo but does not always show the options for F2 Setup or F12 Boot order. Sometimes these options appear and sometimes not.
I have updated the BIOS fro A04 to A08 but with no change. No particular method of shutting down seems to enable these options when rebooting although a "crash" power off does seem to enable the option more often.
All Dell diagnostics say everything OK
Anyone any ideas?

Hi Rarebrew,
Appreciate the steps tried. Since the diagnostics passed, hardware components are working as designed. To go to BIOS screen, you may tap F2 at startup screen or at Dell logo. Tap F12 to go to One-time boot menu.

Hi Sujatha,
Obviously not explained myself clearly. The problem is that the F2 and F12 options do not appear on the screen to enable me to select them.
On boot I initially get the Dell Logo with the circling dots underneath but NO F2 or F12 options appear in the bottom right corner to allow me to choose them. Tapping the keys, even though options do not appear, has no effect.
If I boot and logon then deliberately crash the system, by holding down the power button for 5 seconds, then sometimes the F2 and F12 options appear on restart but not always.
The system also seems to be somewhat slower to go from BIOS start-up to the logon screen – sometimes as long as 30 seconds.
I have also noticed that at times the system seems to be activating the DVD drive although there is no DVD in it and no DVD use applications are running.
All Dell diagnostics both the ones from start-up option and those available on line show no problems.
I am somewhat mystified as to what is going on. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Rarebrew,
Keep tapping F2/ F12 at startup to go respective mode.
Also update BIOS & check. Click on the link below, enter the system service tag and click Submit to get drivers for your system model:

Hope this helps.

Hi Sujatha,
I'd already updated the BIOS from version A04 to A08 and had also tried continually tapping the F2/F12 at startup but with no success. :emotion-6:
The only time tapping the F2 and F12 keys works is when the option appears at startup and as mentioned before I can only get that to occur when I've "crashed" the system.
Very grateful for your suggestions and anything else you can suggest.I am beginning to wonder if a full factory reset might be the only answer but that seems a bit of a dramatic option for the moment.
