Problem with DELL Inspiron 3521 audio!

Hi,

I had bought this  DELL Inspiron 3521 laptop sometime back and I'm facing an issue with the audio. I experienced it while I'm using earphones only. The audio keeps switching from left to right and sometimes works on only one side. I initially thought it was an issue with my earphone but i tried with multiple earphones and still I experienced the same problem. But the laptop speakers works fine. Could it be an issue with the audio port? Can someone help me on this.

Thank you,

Umesh

Could it be an issue with the audio port?

Hello Unmesh. The way to determine that is to switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native audio driver. If you don't have the Realtek driver you can get it from the Inspiron 3521 support page.

1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the Windows search box).
2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
3. Select to "Update Driver Software".
4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.
7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).
8. Click "Next".
9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver).
10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]

If the headphone jack does not work correctly while using either the Realtek or the native audio driver then it is a hardware issue.

If it works okay with the native driver but not the Realtek driver, then the Realtek driver is buggy. In that case let me know which operating system your laptop has and I will see if there is a different Realtek driver you can use.

Okay. If the test I asked you to do shows that the Realtek audio driver is buggy I will look for another version.
