Problem with Inspiron mini 1012 keyboard

I've got an Inspiron mini with a keyboard that won't function without a remote keyboard. When pressed, most of the keys respond with ASCII gibberish.

I've taken off the keyboard and cleaned it thoroughly, as well as checked that the ribbon was seated properly. I could find no problems. On the software end, I've run SFC, checked the MSCONFIG and run spyware and virus checks. There's nothing in the BIOS that suggests any problems (note: I can't get the keys to work in BIOS either). I'd like to flash the BIOS but can't find a file to do so. I've updated all the drivers I can. I'd like to set it back to factory default except as a matter of policy we erase all other drives when we build computers here, so there's no other Dell partitions.

I'm afraid if I just wipe and reload it the keys will remain the same. Help?

If the integrated key board is not working in the BIOS then it is likely that the keyboard is defective.  If external keyboard work fine then that rules out software causes.  If you wish please send me a private message and I will be happy to research possible service options.  Options will be limited if the system is out of warranty.

The part number for the keyboard is V3272 and it goes for around 25 bucks online.  For instructions installing the keyboard please take a look at at the service manual located from the following link.
