Problems with graphics. Grey Screen, Fading

I own a Dell Inspiron running on Windows 7, and the graphics have been acting up for around a month.

1. When I shut the computer, the screen pops up grey(Sometimes with colors depending on the background) and I have to adjust the postion of the screen to fix it

2. If I don't have the screen in a specific postion, it will freeze and slowly fade to grey and I have to keep moving the screen in order to get back to  the normal screen.

3, Right when I turn it on, the grey screen pops up, but dissapers in a few moments, resuming normal startup.

Anyone have any advice.....please?

Hi,

Welcome to the Community.

First of all please try to check the issue in the Bios Screen i.e tapping the f2 key as soon as you start up the computer and see if you still face the same issue..

If So it could be a problem with any of the hardware component of the computer like the LCD or the GPU.

If not Then perhaps you can try to update the Video drivers of the computer or you can also try to Flash the Bios i.e update the Bios from our website

www.dell.com/.../DriversHome

PS : in order to update the Bios the computer should have atleast 10% of battery charge and the A/C adapter should be connected to the computer...

Thanks,

Gursaran

P.S. Oh and I forgot to ask, what are the possible causes for this issue so I can be sure not to do it again.

Hello Gursaran. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.

I did as you said and, along with the advice from another person to reset the color correlation, it has made the problem worlds better. However, it still isn't solved and I am a bit paranoid that it is going to crash my laptop.

When I turned it on and kept tapping f2, it went to the Pre Boot Scan, which I allowed to go through the whole 45 minute process. Everything passed, except for one:

Hard Drive- DST Short Test

Error Code 0146

MSG Error Code 2000-0146

I have looked it up and some people say I will have to purchess a new hard drive. Is there any way around this?

Thank you again for being patient with me.

Hi

Raiyuzaki

First of all sorry for the late reply...

See the kind of issue that is coming up on your computer right now the error code of 0146 does point us to the direction that the Hard Drive might have gone bad on the computer...

However we can try one thing that is to install the windows on the computer again you can follow this link...

If the error code still persists that means you would have to get a new Hard Drive for the computer....

Thanks,

Gursaran
