RAM Memory upgrades on my XPS 17?
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I currently have a Dell XPS 17 L702x with 4gb of RAM( single channel, 665mhz, 9-9-9-24), Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1, Intel i7 2720QM cpu, NVIDIA 550m graphics card. Pretty soon I want to upgrade my RAM to 8gb or 16gb(only if its less than $180, but preferably 8gb) and i have several questions. First off it appears as though I have SODIMM ram but in the ram bay it says DDR3 only, can anyone help me here? Also, on first visual inspection it looks like i have only 2 RAM slots however i ran a software program(speecy) that says I have 4 RAM slots, can anybody tell me if my model is meant to have 4 or 2 slots or if its possible that there are slots under each other? Finally does anyone have some pointers on what RAM to get, ie. the fastest, best model (im using it for gaming so yeah) etc. Also where to get the RAM you recommend from. If anyone can answer at least one of these questions I will be very appreciative. Thans for any help.

Hi
Welcome to the Community. The Dell XPS L702X system supports dual-channel DDR3 SDRAM with memory speeds of 1066 MHz /1333 MHz. At 1066 / 1333 MHz, this memory offers a significant increase of memory performance over previous platforms.
The Dell™ XPS™ L702X has 2 DIMM sockets and 4 DIMM sockets:
1. Motherboard with 1GB Video RAM have 2 DIMM sockets.
2. Motherboards with 3GB video RAM (Nvidia GT 450M) have 2 slot DIMMs because it has non 3D video solution.
3. Motherboard with 3D 3GB Video RAM have 4 DIMM sockets.
Yes the memory goes one on top of the other. Check the below link on how to reseat the memory.

Hope this helps.
Thank you
