Real time clock error and System timer error - please help

Hi all

My clock does not update, and when running a diagnostics I get the following 2 error codes:

Real time clock error code 4C00:021D

System timer error code 4C00:041B "channel 0 (mode 3) is generating the wrong interrups count per second. Expeced 18. Actual 39.

Any suggestions? Your input is most appreciated.

Both of those errors are tied to a bad realtime clock chip - not the battery (or CMOS battery).  Having that chip replaced will solve both - you will need a shop that can do board-level soldering (not a typical parts-swapper like Geek Squad, EasyTech, etc., which will simply tell you they must replace the system board.

Expect a clock chip replacement to run $150-200, part and labor (about 1/3 the cost of a replacement mainboard).

By the way. In my hardware I have a PCI device that is not working properly. But I can not figure out how to find the relevant driver, because the device is presented as unknow. My laptop is a Dell M1730. Could that be the root of the probelm with my real time clock?

The real-time clock chip needs to be replaced - which requires a soldered mainboard repair (or replacement of the mainboard).

Thanks ejn63. Any chance of it only being the battery that needs replacement?

Will the possible change of chip cover both errors?
