The drive itself will not open. I push the eject button, the light flashes, but nothing happens. Therefore, I can't burn anything from my system to CD's/DVD's. Do you know what I can do to fix this problem?
I editted this and my last post. You are on the notebook bios forum so I assumed you had a notebook and not a desktop...
Any standard IDE drive should work as far as I know. If you want a rewritable CD burner, I'd say it will cost around $50. 3rd party stores (maybe newegg?) will likely be cheaper than dell or dell spare parts, but feel free to give them a call and get a price.
the drive is probably broken. if it's under warranty, call dell. you may also be able to manually open the drive by inserting an unbent paper clip into the tiny circular openning on the front of the drive. this will manually open many drives.
Do you know how much it would cost to have a part like this replaced. My warranty is no longer good. I did open it manually, but now it won't read anything. Thanks for your help.

edit: changed the link to desktop forum. assuming you had a laptop since you were on this board, but re-reading your post proved me wrong.
