Finally I have replaced new Intel Core Duo T7600 Processor to my Inspiron 6400 instead of T2300E.After rebooting the system I've got an message on the black screen saying following: ***Processor Microcode Update Failure***
The revision of processor in the system is not supported.
Strike F1 key to continue,F2 to run the setup utility."
So I have entered to setup mode and found that the system actually recognizes my new T7600.After leaving the setup Windows started working normally...But after restarting computer again the message appeared again.
Is that saying that my laptop is not using T7600 "complete" and experiencing some problems?..and what shell I do to prevent this message in the future and help my laptop to work properly?
Regards
Erni
Hi
Thank you for using Dell Community.
If the Processor installed is not supported by the Motherboard thats the error message you get. The BIOS however yould recognise the processor but would not be able to match the processor speeds.
A Common fix to such issues is a BIOS update, even after BIOS is updated if it doesnt fix the problem. Then its an incompatible processor.
Unfortunately I am still experiencing some problems:)
Just went to the link and have downloaded the "DellDriverDownloadManager"
After launching it shows me the message that "There are no files to download.PLease go to Drivers and Downloads to select the File(s)"
I went to the page again and selected the file (I guess)..now I see on that page that "You have 1 Download List saved"....Pressing download again and it gives me to download the same "Dell DriverDownloadManager".....What to do?
The XPS is a consumer-grade system and built to a price. The Precision is a business-class machine with higher-grade design and better build quality, among other things.

Be sure you have the latest BIOS for the system. If you do not, update it.
If you do and/or that doesn't solve the problem, you'll have to live with the error -- it means the CPU isn't supported by the system.

Here is the BIOS file for your system. Download it and install, it would then restart automatically.

Excuse me for such a late response..Didn't see Your message....Yes,both are fixed.I have downloaded UPDATE and after that the message disappeared:))
Thank You SO much:)
P.S. actually,right now I posted another question:)
Hello!
Just trying to understand what is actual difference between those two XPS 15 and Precision M450?
I am looking for configuration which has: i7-840QM 8Gb RAM and 2Gb NVIDIA GeForce.
I found that both of them can have these specifications...The only thing is a HUGE difference in Price?:))
WHY?!What are the benefits to have Precision rather than XPS?..Meanwhile I found that M450 has 4 USB slots(what is good for me:)...XPS has only 2:)
Thank You:)

Hi,
I am thinking of upgrading my dell inspiron 640M processor to T7600 or T7600G. My current CPU is a socket M processor.
Would I need any bios upgrade.
For the current CPU, I am having MX61_A10.EXE bios installed at the moment, which I know supports up to Windows Vista 64 bit.
Would I need a upgrade for bios? If yes, from where can I get one?

If you want the upgrade, be sure you have the latest BIOS. The "G" CPU is core-unlocked and WILL NOT work in your system.
That said, a solid state hard drive will make far more of an impact on performance than the CPU upgrade will.

Thanks for your reply.
Do you mean to say, I wont be able to over-clock or that the CPU will not be recognized?
Thanks!!!

A few Alienware systems have manual overclock multiplier controls -- nothing else from Dell does.
