Studio 1555 keyboard light

Hello, i have a problem with my Dell Studio 1555 keyboard light. The laptop is close to 3 years old and a couple of months ago i had to change the keyboard. The reason why i changed the keyboard was because the last row of buttons were unresponsive. I tried all the tips and tricks to try and fix it but in the end it I had to buy a new one. After i got the new keyboard i noticed everything was ok till the light from it turned off. I tried restarting, nothing happened. I re-installed the Windows 7 and again nothing happened, I even tried flashing new bios and after the restart wich the bios requires the keyboard light turns on only to go off after i log into windows, PERMANENTLY. So even if i restart or anything same thing happens: no keyboard light, only if i flash the bios(restart laptop keyboard light works, message for windows login-> keyboard light goes off forever). Can someone please come up to a solution for me?

Thank you very much.

Hello Radu,

Couple of things I would like to suggest.
1. Try to turn on the Keyboard backlight.
-- Press the F6 key on the keyboard to turn it on or off.
-- The key should have  this symbol.
If pressing F6 key doesn’t work, then try FN+F6.
If that doesn’t work, then try Step 2.

2. Install the Quickset Drivers from the link mentioned below.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats/Product/studio-1555?DriverId=6938X&FileId=2731093591&urlProductCode=False
-- Download and install the Quickset Drivers.
-- Restart the computer.
-- Click Start.
-- In Search program and files tab type in windows mobility center.
-- Press Enter.
-- In the window towards the end check for the option for increasing and decreasing the keyboard brightness.
-- Click on it and check if it’s working.

Please try the steps and reply for further queries, I’d be glad to help.

hello and thank you for replying. i tried what you proposed and i have to tell you that it does not work. when i go in windows mobility center it doesent even show the option for keyboard light and i find this absurd considering i have this laptop for so long and it always had the light.

so it only works if i reinstall the BIOS. it does it automatic restart keyboard light work fine then when it finishes to load windows and i log in....nothing it goes dark, forever not even after 10 restarts the keyboard light will turn on.so it only works when i reinstall bios and works for like 30 secs till it loads everything up again(until i have to log into windows)

Hi,

As the previous steps did not work, help me understand couple of things to take it forward.
 1. Is this a Dell keyboard?
2. Were both the cables for the keyboard connected properly?

Lot of times what happens is that the keyboard cable is loose or not connected to the port on the motherboard, it won’t work properly.
Ensure that both the cables are connected properly the following image would give you the idea about the cables.

That is the keyboard back light cable.
The back light cable can be connected both the ways. It should be connected properly and should not be loose.
Ensure the cable is not loose and the orientation of the cable is correct as the cable can go in both the ways. Hence the orientation is very important.

That is the keyboard cable.
Ensure the cable is connected properly.

In case you need help in disassembling the keyboard, follow the link mentioned below.

Please try the steps and post the results, would be glad to help you further.

yes i connected everything properly. it only lights up if i reinstall bios...but just before entering windows the keyboard light goes off and doesent go on again, only if i reinstall bios again.

-everything is connected properly
-official dell keyboard
-only works briefly right after i reinstall Bios, after that goes off when i log into windows and i cant make it turn on
