Dell (and Crucial) say 4G is the limit. You may find 8 will work - but it may not. And you'll have to upgrade to a 64-bit operating system, since no 32-bit version of Windows can address more than 4G of RAM.

Digging up an old post to see if anyone ever deterimined whether a +4gb RAM update on the 1735 was possible (with an updated Core 2 processor)? My Inspiron 17R is horrible and I'm wanting to go back to my old 1735.. a little ram will go a long way.
