Taskbar disappears after sleep mode

All of a sudden I have started losing my taskbar.  The only way that I can get it back is to restart my computer.  I have not changed any settings.  I am using Windows 7- 64 bit.

Yep, same here. I have 1 week old Dell 15R and I am having the same exact problem. When I wake the computer from the screen saver, wake it from sleep mode, or sometimes switching from "projector mode" back to laptop screen mode. One thing that has been working is logging out and then back in, that way you don't have to restart the whole computer. But wow, so far this is not making my life easier like I expected it to. Personally I really don't feel like being on the phone to someone in another country who English speaking and listen difficulties, I'm already peeved enough about this as it is. Don't add insult to injury Dell, get on your game please and send out an update or a fix for this please or I will be asking for my money back.

Just checking to see if all have checked the taskbar properties and see how they have been configured.   Since this seems to be intermittent problems check while the task bar is up. Right click on the task bar and choose properties.  The first two things I would check is if "lock the taskbar" and "Auto-hide the taskbar" is unchecked or not.  If "lock the taskbar" is not checked, check it and see if it still vanishes.  Make sure that "Auto-hide" is unchecked.

I would also take a look at where the taskbar is configured to be located, there is a drop down menu that you can choose the bottom, sides or top.  If the taskbar is locked, set to auto-hide and set to be on one of the sides or the top, you won't ever be able to see it, it doesn't mean that it isn't there.

Just to make sure that there isn't some other software or utility that is changing the settings for the task bar boot the system to safe mode.  Start the system while tapping the F2 key and choose safe mode.  If the taskbar works fine there then you know that there is another application that is causing the problem.

Well I might say that any of these solutions would be the case if I wasn't able to still clearly see the START button. So I get no task bar, only a START button. I going with it being a video driver problem. Perhaps the way that windows allocated video memory for the transparent task bar is not working properly with the driver.

I am sorry; I didn't know that the start button was still showing up, only that taskbar was missing.  For something like this I suggest going into MSCONFIG and kill running apps in the background.

Click start / run and type in msconfig and press enter.  Click the services tab and make sure to check "hide all Microsoft services" then click disable all.  Click the startup tab and click disable all. Click OK and allow the system restart.

Since the problem only seems to occur when you wake the computer, allow the computer to sleep and wake it and see if the same problem occurs.  If all of a sudden the problem goes away then you know it will be one of the applications or services disabled in msconfig.  After testing please make sure to go back into msconfig to return it to normal startup.

Barring applications running in the background, I agree with you, it could well be a problem with the video driver.  You can find the current Dell driver for your system from the following link.
