Temp sensor out of range

Inspiron 9300

So my son spilled some tea across the top of my laptop. A bit ran down through the keys, but I was able to catch most of it. However, within seconds of the spill, a fan just started racing as if everything was overheating. It's not the cpu fan, nor the video card fan. It's the normal case cooling fan on the upper left side. I immediately shutdown, and let it sit for some time to dry out. When I tried to reboot, the OS took forever to load and the system acted tottally bogged down. I restarted and ran the system diagnostics. Below is the results:

Error Code- 3900:0626
Temp sensor out of range Temp 255°C - Min 10°C Max 100°C
CPU thermistor
Video thermistor
SODIMM thermistor

Also note, the CPU clocked down to 800 MHz instead of 2.0 GHz - super slowed down!

I'm not under warranty, so where should I start my troubleshooting? Can I get a replacement thermistor? Is it built onto the MoBo meaning that the whole MoBo needs to be replaced? What do you all think?

It sounds like you may have shorted out the thermistor that senses the temperature.  This is built into the motherboard and if this is so, you will need to replace the motherboard to fix it.

Since the BIOS senses that the thermistor is hot, it has automatically slowed down the CPU to try and keep it cool.

Thanks Baywolf..

I'm guessing the thermistor is not removable from the MoBo? It can't be replaced? I checked and the board for this model is 250 bucks! That seems a little expensive..

Repairing the thermistor on the motherboard is above my expertise.

As for the $250 dollars, that is a good price for a replacement motherboard.  I have seen them in the 3, 4 and 500 dollar range.
