Temp sensor out of range
Dell Inspiron 1200 Windows XP
I spilled wine across the top of my laptop and a little ran down through the keys, but I was able to catch most of it. I immediately shutdown, and let it sit for some time to dry out. When I turned it back on it seemed to be okay but now I cannot watch videos they are choppy and out of sync. I sent it out to be cleaned professionally (they don’t think it has anything to do with video not playing) but when I got it back I am still unable to watch videos so I ran a diagnostic and below are the results from the system diagnostics. Error Code- 3900:0626 Temp sensor out of range Temp 255°C - Min 10°C Max 100°C
So what does this mean, other than not being able to watch videos every thing else works okay. I can watch videos if I download the video to my hard drive and watch from VLC only. I cannot watch from windows media player, real player or stream from the internet.
Can someone please help?
Thanks

It sounds like the temperature sensor was damaged in the spill, so the system isn't correctly cycling the fan on and off. As a result, demanding operations like video decoding are likely causing overheating, where the CPU is throttling back to save itself.
The only real fix is an expensive one - a replacement mainboard. This will run $400-500 with labor, so a new notebook may be a better idea.

Thank you ejn63
I was hoping it was something a lot simpler but I had a feeling that was what you were going to say.
Thanks

ejn63 is most likely right. However, there are some things you may be able to do first.
Does the fan work at all; do you here it?
You can download I8kfangui (free), which can monitor all the internal computer temps and the speed of the fan. Post back what you get for the CPU, GPU, chipset and RAM temps, and what it says about the fan.
It's possible the fan is bad. I don't know about yous, but some Dells have the CPU temp monitor in the fan assembly.
You should also go th F12 at the Dell Boot screen and run the complete diagnostics. This will test everything, including the fan.
