Touchpad driver for 64 bit Windows 7

Question

Dell does not seem to make this driver. I can click on XP and Vista 32 Bit and they show up but when you choose Vista 64 bit the Input drivers do not mention the touchpad drivers so there is no way to desensitize the touchpad. Is this going to change?

Although looking at your activity you seem to mention a Latitude D620. On the Dell ftp website there is a Windows 7 32 bit/64 bit touchpad input driver:

For some reason its under the legacy input drivers.

Its the same driver as I mentioned above for the Latitude D630 ATG.

How are we meant to know if there is a driver for your touchpad when we don't know the model of your Dell?

Thanks, I did not notice the legacy input driver choice. Maybe I should go back and look at that. In the meantime I did look and still don't see anything called Legacy on the driver webpage. Where did you find that? I even changed the type to Older. So educate me, how did you find that. That is great information because I have sold about 10 Dell D630s with Windows 7 64 bit and did not put the touchpad drivers on these computers. Without these drivers the touchpad is much harder to customize. And thanks again. So where, where? Can you show me the page or tell me how to get to that page not just the download? I did trust your download, used it and it worked. Much appreciated.

The Dell FTP Website Browse for Drivers http://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/

In many ways superior to Drivers and Downloads, should list everything as direct links and has some other OS e.g. Windows 7 32 bit for systems with just Windows 7 64 bit. It has many older version of the drivers also. Unfortunately it isn't updated as frequently.

I have a Dell Studio laptop which i bought four years back with a Core two duo processor and sixty-four bit Windows seven. It has a three GB RAM. Something has become odd with the system. Both my left and right mouse buttons have stopped functioning and my touchpad works only as the right mouse button. In short, I am unable to use my left mouse button. Neither does an external mouse help. My number keys also do not function. Please help. Its extremely urgent.

Hello, My original post on this subject may be of assistance to you (but see my last few sentences as well). What I found was that I needed to disable (not uninstall) the touchpad driver. You do this by going to Control Panel, selecting Device Manager, and then finding the touchpad device. This may be listed under the Mouse tab or the Human Interface Device (HID) tab. When you find it, right click on the device and select Disable this device. The other thing to look for is a setting for the touchpad in the System Tray. If its there, you may find an external setting worded something like this: Disable touchpad when an external mouse is detected. If you find such a setting be sure to check mark the box. Then reboot your computer and make sure the touchpad is no longer functioning. Once you've gotten the touchpad disabled, attach an external mouse to an available USB port. Depending on the mouse you choose, you may have a device driver for it (on an installation disk), or may be able to get one from the manufacturer. Windows 7 also comes with a myriad of mouse drivers, so it may automatically select the right driver for it. Having said the above, I'm not sure the problem is a function of your touchpad, but rather the possibility that your OS has become corrupted. I experienced just such a situation, where no amount of 'fiddling' would fix seemingly random events, some of which disabled various functions and other issues prevented me from installing new apps. Eventually I had to back up all my data, reformat my hard drive, and reinstall Windows and all my applications. During this process, one of the Net Framework modules reported that it was non-functional and did I want it to do self-repairs. I let the program 'fix itself', and that fixed the problem. You may need to consider just such a process for your computer. I hope this helps you. Regards, BearPup

Just letting you know that this link and driver worked for a Dell Vostro 1710 with Windows 7 64-bit (recently upgraded from Windows XP and it's taking a while to get the hang of it).

I already uninstalled the Synaptics driver previously, restarted and then attempted to install the XP/Vista version of the Alps touchpad driver intended for the Vostro...and it refused to install because "it doesn't work on this version of Windows".

Installing the driver from the link above worked. I now have the scroll function back and disabled the "tap to click" function so I no longer end up typing in the wrong place if I accidentally touch the touchpad while typing (which has happened often enough in the past few days to be very annoying).

I am very grateful. :)
