Touchpad on XPS12 Disables at Every Boot (Windows 10 RTM)

I hope that Dell is aware of this problem and writing new drivers to correct the problem. I'm a Windows Insider running the RTM release of the upcoming Windows 10. Every time I boot up this Dell XPS12 (9Q33, Mid 2013), the touchpad disables itself. I always have to go into the Dell Pointing Devices app. In that app, the touchpad is still showing that it is enabled (wrong).

I then disable the touchpad & save my change in the app. Then, I re-enable the touchpad & save my changes. Only then does the touchpad work.

I reported this several times through the Insider's Feedback utility, but I've seen no fix implemented.

I hope that Dell is ready to fix this before Windows 10 is released. Thanks.

Hi

I would suggest you to the latest Windows 10 touchpad drivers on the system for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below and click on ‘Get drivers and downloads’ then download the touchpad driver from ‘Mouse, Keyboard & Input Devices’ section onto the system and install it.

Hi,

I would suggest you to update the BIOS and touchpad drivers on the system for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below and click on ‘Get drivers and downloads’ then download the BIOS from BIOS section and touchpad driver from ‘Mouse, Keyboard & Input Devices’ section onto the system and install it.

Thank you, Ravi!  That support page has a warning for Windows 10 users -- it discouraged me from trying the BIOS earlier.  Per your suggestion, I flashed the new BIOS and the problem appears to be resolved now.

I can boot up in laptop configuration, and the touchpad stays active.

Thank you again!

Ravi,

Updating the BIOS appears to have fixed the problem with the touchpad; however, there is a problem whereby Windows 10 no longer recognizes my Microsoft account.

As I wrote to Microsoft:

"Dell told me to update the BIOS (9Q33A08.exe) on my XPS12 (9Q33, Mid 2013) laptop in order to resolve a problem (the touchpad would disable itself as soon as I booted up into Windows 10). The touchpad issue is now resolved, but I now get Windows 10 error 0x80090027 -- I am not logged in to my Microsoft account.  When I go to Settings > Windows 10 > Manage my account, I am already logged in to the account."

This was not an issue before updating the BIOS; so, I think the BIOS update may be related to this new issue. Maybe this is something for your engineers to look at before Windows 10 is released.

Thank you.

Aaaaaaaand ... the BIOS update did not fix the problem, after all.  Late this evening, I booted up & the touchpad disabled itself immediately.

Please fix the bug, Dell.

Thanks.

Thank you for following up again, Ravi.  The new touchpad drivers appears to have fixed the issue. Once the drivers were updated, the touchpad stayed active after booting the PC, as expected.

Thank you, Dell!
