Touchpad won't scroll

Hi,I have a Dell Inspiron1420 and I was able to scroll the page by running my finger up or down alongside the touchpad.Also there was an icon at the bottom that showed when I was moving the mouse pointer.Now,all of the sudden,the icon is gone and I can't scroll using the touchpad.Can anybody help me to get that going again?
