Transparent image over display on 1100

Hey everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me with this as I have no idea what to do next....

I went to check my e-mail before work this morning and noticed that the lower half of my screen was as if someone had taken a photo editing tool and blured/streaked the background. So I turned off my laptop until I got home 9 hours later. Same thing. I ran the diagnostic check on the boot menu and it said that my graphic had an error (obviously!). I ran scandisk and it's still there. The bizzare thing is that I took a picture of my display using the print screen function and the obstruction doesn't appear. It's as if whatever is blocking it, is just floating on top. I can get to the start menu and use the top icons/menu but I can't get to the programs list or anything near the bottom. I can't see anything under the thing either.

My laptop is barely 5 months old so nothing can be outdated. I maintain my computer so I don't know what I did.... I love my laptop. If anyone could help i'd be grateful!
