USB 3.0 port not reading USB 2.0 device

hello everyone. i have a dell laptop with 4 usb 3 ports. i have a seagate external hd usb 3 which works fine in my laptop's  usb 3.0 ports. but my transcend usb 2.0 pen drive  is not recognized in these usb 3.0 ports.. i have heard that usb 3.0 ports are backward compatible,  then why does't these usb ports recognize usb 2.0 pen drive????im using windows 7 ultimate version. can somebody pls tell me how can i rectrify this problem.

Hi sreekanth1331,

May I know the system model ?

You may Uninstall and reinstall the USB 3.0 drivers.

To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

  • ClickStart, clickRun, typesysdm.cpl in theOpen box, and then clickOK.
  • Click theHardware tab.
  • Click theDevice Manager button.
  • ExpandUniversal Serial Bus controllers.
  • Right-click every device under theUniversal Serial Bus controllers node, and then clickUninstall to remove them one at a time.
  • Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.
  • Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

my laptop model is dell inspiron 15 5520

will the usb driver automatically install at restarting?? or should i do it manually??

Hi sreekanth1331,

Yes once you restart the computer after uninstalling the USB drivers, the drivers would be automatically installed.

Also, you need to install the USB 3.0 drivers from the following link:
