Using the D/DOCK with PCI cards with an On-Board BIOS

I’ve tried two different PCI cards with On-Board BIOS in the D/Dock without success.

I have a Promise Ultra 100 TX2 IDE controller, that when it’s put into a tower system the following is displayed on boot:

Ultra100TX2 ™ BIOS Version 2.0.0210.2

etc etc etc

When I put that same card in the PCI slot of my D/DOCK and boot my D600 I don’t see the above message just normal messages.

When the D600 has came up under Windows XP, I see the IDE card in Device Manager and it says it’s working properly. But the D600 doesn’t see any IDE drives attached to the controller in the D/DOCK

The main reason I bought the D/DOCK was so that I could use these two PCI cards (one at a time) with my laptop.

Any and all suggestions would be VERY much appreciated!

David

There might be an explaination, as I had to twist a lot of arms at Dell to get some feedback about the PCI slot on the docking station. I was trying to put a video card in it, as refereced in this thread http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=latit_apr&message.id=863&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

One of the Gold Tech Support guys called me back, Eddie, and he said he had talked with his trainer about the D/Dock, and that the only card that was verified on the D/Dock was some token ring network adapter, and that it wasn't designed for stuff like video cards. He mentioned something about the PCI slot in the docking station being a secondary PCI bus, and that almost all video cards require you to put them on the primary PCI bus, so I'm guessing that's why nobody is getting anywhere with video cards in the docking station. So as far as the technical details go for if there even exists a card out there that will work with the D/Dock, I don't know enough about the specifics of the PCI bus and video cards to give any suggestions.

So maybe your problem is similarly related to this so called "secondary PCI bus" architecture.
