Using usb mouse on a Latitude e6430
Hi
I purchased a recon Latitude e6430 and the dell supplier turned the touchpad off on purchase for me to use a usb mouse. Avast has recently cleaned my computer and the kangeroo cursor has restarted.
The supplier wants £35 to fix it and I would like to know how to correct it myself for now and any future time. I cannot get on with touchpads and prefer using a mouse. Can anyone help?

Hi ToneC,
Thanks for the post! Sounds like Avast could be preventing your Dell track pad software from loading correctly. I would first suggest making sure the touch pad Drivers/BIOS are up to date with the latest released on the drivers & downloads site, linked below. If with the latest drivers
Latitude E6430 – Drivers & Downloads
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/latitude-e6430/drivers
When installed and running you should be able to configure the device by right clicking the touch pad icon in the bottom right of your start bar and entering ‘Touch pad properties’ and toggling the Touch pad on/off switch in the options provided.
Disabling or Enabling the Touchpad Using the Hot Key
http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN114937/en
If the software is not listed in your icon tray and the hotkey functions do not work, Avast may be incompatible with the software or preventing it from loading correctly at start up.
Let us know how it goes,
Brizzi

Hi
Originally I opened the Dell pointing devices box to turn the touchpad off. But it showed the zero highlighted saying it was already off and wherever I went I could not stop it working and causing the cursor from jumping wherever mouse position was. Which I realise I should have said when requesting help.
Tried the driver download site and was told I have the lastest drivers installed. So with some trepidation, I tried uninstalling the touchpad altogether via the touchpad propeties and clicking unistall. Told to restart. But when back on, I had a confusing a message on my bottom tray saying touchpad successfully installed and a box saying restart again. So did, thinking I will need to uninstall again.
When back at mouse properties, this time the access box showed an image of the touchpad and below a link to change settings. So clicked it & got Dell pointing devices showing touchpad turned on. Clicked off & the kangaroo cursor has successfully disappeared this time. Don't ask me what happened internally, but It only took 2 minutes and I didn't charge myself an arm & leg as the dell supplier would have! :emotion-2:
Thanks everybody
