This is a hybrid video system - the Intel GPU is always active;  the AMD GPU can be configured by means of the menu you have noted to boost video performance in games and other applications.  It will, of course, also significantly reduce your battery runtime - so use it when it's needed, leaving it inactive when it's not.

You can choose to activate the AMD GPU on a per-application basis.

EJN63 - Thanks for your reply, very helpful. I've lots more questions, but now have enough info to look for answers.

BTW, if you disable the Intel GPU in Device Manager (Windows 10) the screen goes black. And, I'm really glad it is enabled again with the system is rebooted. (grin)

This is a muxless hybrid system - entirely software controlled.  All video data -- even processed through the AMD GPU -- passes through the Intel GPU on its way to the screen.  There is no way to disable the Intel GPU and have the system function.

The AMD GPU is simply a co-processor - it is not a discrete video chip.
