Vostro 3300 How to Activate Fingerprint Scanner and keyboard backlight?
Just received a new Vostro 3300. Can someone tell me how to activate the fingerprint scanner and to turn on the keyboard backlight?
Thanks!

petermaine,
I had a different model and if you help the Fn button and the arrow key key with the screen, it gave three options, Off, bright and dim. You can also click start, in search type
quickset
and look there.
Fingerprint reader, there should be an icon near the clock. If you click on it, can't remember if it was right click or left click, you can register your finger prints from there. Do you know if the computer uses DigiPersona or a different program. You may be able to access the fingerprint software from start, all programs.

Rick,
Thanks for your reply. I figured out the back-lit keyboard command, but there is no icon near the clock as I've read with other models. I've searched the Dell manual that is linked through the laptop for "fingerprint" and it's come up blank. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Purchased from Dell, still under warranty. Windows 7 as original OS. No software disk included.

Peter,
I tried to locate the manual and could not find anything. The fingerprint reader software can be found at Drivers & Downloads, enter your service tag number. Under Security, you should see the drivers needed. It is...
Validity VFM301-4A Fingerprint Sensor
This should install the software and allow you to register your fingerprints. I washed my hands first, the dried them. Swipe your finger slowly and at different angles.
Since you did mnot get disks, you can try reading the imnstructions located at Request Backup Disks USA, try to request the disks, if you think you need them.
Most of your programs are available for you at. My Dell Downloads :: Login

Peter,
You said new. Did you purchase the system from Dell or a reatiler? If Dell, is computer still under warranty?
What is the operating system installed? Was this upgraded or the origional operating system?
Do you have the fingerprint software disk?
