The only driver that I am aware of can be located from the following link

If you have not already done so, I suggest going into control panel and programs and features and remove any software regarding the fingerprint reader driver. Then downloading and installing it clean.

If the reader worked before you can try a PC restore (be sure to back up your data before doing so) and if the reader continues to fail then I suggest having the notebook serviced, the palm rest will need to be replaced.

If the finger print readers was ordered with the notebook and you have manually reinstalled Windows and all the drivers correclty the readers should work. You should consider having a service set up to replace the fingerprint reader.

I have sent you a friend request,  reply to the request or shoot me a private message with your shipping and email address, phone number, and service tag and I will research possible service options to replace the fingerprint reader.

Hey, I have installed the recommended Vostro 3550 Validity Sensor Driver and the Device Manager sees it as working fine, but in Windows' Biometric Devices Section (which apparently I should go to to start using the device), it says: "Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers."

What should I do?

Best,

JS

The same situation, i am using dell vostro 3350, with windows 7 64bit, all drivers installed, vaidity sensor driver also working fine, nothing in device manager objectionabale.. I had purchased the dell vostro 3350 just for this feature, its been 3 days and 4 nights i cannot figure out the way how to use it.

In biometric devices it says " windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer, you might need to attach device or reinstall it"

ive also tried shutting down the windows completely and removed the battery for 15 minutes, even though it fixed up the login screen for windows and removed the finger print sign saying " no readers detected " Please suggest a solid link and a pure answer step by step. I am a loyal user of DELL and would request the dell community not to dissappoint me.

I just figured it out. We purchased 3 Vostro 3550 and I reformated one with a clean install.

I had to copy the install programs under the C:\APP directory before reformatting to get a copy of the software that was installed on the laptop but not shipped with the install discs.( Digital Fingerprint software and PowerDvd)

Using the Reinstallation DVD I reformated and installed the OS (Windows 7 64bit)

Installed Dell System Software from Resource CD

Updated driver from Device Manager for SM Bus Controller from Resource CD

Updated driver from Device Manager for PCI Simple from Resource CD

Updated driver from Device Manager for Ethernet  device from Resource CD

Updated driver from Device Manager for Network device from Resource CD

The next step fixed the issue with the finger sensor.

Installed Finger Sensor driver from the Resource CD,

Installing the driver rather then updating the driver from Device Manager would allow the Digital software to find the sensor.

After this I continued on with the rest of the driver/software install.

Installed the Accelerometer software from Resource CD.

Install Audio software from Resource CD.

etc. etc. etc...

Hope this helps anyone having this issue. It took me awhile to figure it out.

Hi Terry,

I have a Vostro 3550, the Validity sensor is working. Unfortunately, I inadvertently removed the DigitalPersona software while trying to remove another program. Stupid of me, but there you go. I can't find the software anywhere on my machine and I don't want to do a a factory re-install. The Dell support website has a version which is 4.02, whereas the version I had was 5.2. How can I get this software?

Regards

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. I didn't notice that you have posted.  Unfortunately I don't have very good news for you.  Digital Persona is legacy software, and is not avaialble for Unbuntu systems. If you want the software you will need to get it directly from Digital Personal

If you ordered media to be shipped with your notebook, then you should have a Digital Persona disk.  If you did not order media with the system, then you should be able to create a back up for Digital Persona using Dell using the restore utility software that shipped with your notebook.  You may also be able to contact tech support in your area for further aid in doing so.

The fingerprint reader is not detected in Fedora 15 with 2.6.41.9-1.fc15.i686.PAE .

`lsusb' says "Bus 002 Device 003: ID 138a:0011 Validity Sensors, Inc."

`fprintd-enroll' says "list_devices failed: No devices available"

Model: Dell Vostro 3550
