Vostro 3560 + Windows 8 = Problems and more problems
I installed Windows 8 on my Vostro 3560 and even installing the new driver for Win8 video card AMD HD 7670 Randeon the note presents several bugs this board, such as:
* apps made for Win8 (with technology underground) not roam well with AMD board, where they are fighting or simply leave the slow note.
* The computer now does not go into an idle state automatically after the time set in the Power Options, due to various errors that prevent this driver please note the suspended state.
* The fingerprint reader no longer works at the logon screen or lock Win8. The reader only works when I'm on the desktop or on the start screen, also due to a problem with the video card drivers because it is causing several incompatiblidades system.
All these mistakes I vii event log windows.
Have I contacted AMD who said that Dell is to update the driver for the notebook has two cards (intel and AMD) and fits Dell make changes and corrections.
And then Dell??
No Events found!

Had similar problem.
I upgraded to Win8 Pro (from Win 7) using the Keep my Settings, Personal Files... options from the Windows Upgrade Assistant. The assistant recommends that I uninstall several drivers (Intel USB 3, Bluetooth and I think the AMD display driver), which I did. Other than that, it was an easy process.
After upgrading, Win 8 device manager shows a little exclamation mark under the AMD Radeon display driver. I downloaded the latest Win 8 AMD display driver from http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/vostro-3560?driverId=3W32N&osCode=W864&fileId=3080421814 but the downloaded file just doesn't install.
I also had problems with metro apps. None of the metro style tile apps opened upon clicking
Fingerprint reader upon login also does not work.
Finally gave up and did a "Refresh your PC". (Press keyboard Win key to open Charms right side bar and type "Refresh Your PC") That did a fresh install of Win 8 without losing personal data but wiping off all program settings.
And bingo, that worked. Display problem finally solved, metro apps problem worked great. But finger print reader still doesn't work. But I'd to reinstall all my programs.
Enjoying the new Windows 8 experience right now.

I am having the same problem with my fingerprint reader. I downloaded the recommended Digital Persona software 6.2.1.309, it seems to work fine. The Validity Sensor driver is 2.2.0.0. Now after almost every standby state, the logon fails. Digital Persona shows a small cross in its icon, and the only solution is to disable and re-enable the validity sensor driver in the control panel. Of course, only after you have manually logged on again :-/
I am somewhat disappointed.

"I am somewhat disappointed" - You can say that again; I bought the Vostro 3560 with Ubuntu installed, so I had to get my own drivers and software. Validity drivers 2.2.0.0. are NOT WBF and thus only recognized by Digital Persona, Windows won't see it as a normal Biometric device. AMD drivers are SLOW and give issues.
My issues stopped when I just Installed Catalyst drivers from AMD (The Windows Experience Index for both Aero and 3D applications both went up .6 points). Searched for Validity drivers and came across posts from users of HP laptops equipped with validity sensors as well. I found a link there to a package of drivers and they installed perfectly and now it IS recognized by other applications as well. Including, Windows, Roboform Enterprise etc.
I have given a positive feedback about this great laptop to Dell, which has never been published by them. I can't use there download center for software since my Service Tag is not supported..and refers me to the distributor etc etc.
Dell laptops are great, but SUPPORT SUCKS big time... how could dell do this?
SO just check out the following links:
h10025.www1.hp.com/.../softwareDownloadIndex
stanley.thepharmacopedia.com/.../validity-fingerprint-sensor-driver-windows-8-windows-7
Download the HP driver package (not HP drivers...they are VALIDITY drivers!) and then it will create a folder SWsetup. In device manager uninstall and delete the driver you have at the moment under Biometric devices. and install a new driver...by pointing windows to search in c:\swsetup (include subfolders).....
TADA-->now you have a driver dated: 3/4/2012 Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0011)
the difference is clear: WBF WIndows Biometric Framework... version 4.3.3.4.0
I have no shame pointing to another Vendors website...since Dell doesn't seem to care about me or anyone else with issues...
Let me know how this worked for you guys!
Cheers

oh wow, Frustyated, I totally agree with you, esp. on Dell support with regards to drivers. And it's ridiculous to expect a typical (non-power) user to be able to do the things you do in order to get it working. The amount of loops and obstacles to get it working it just overwhelming
But good news, even as I write, Dell just released the 4.4.231.0 Validaity Sensors dated Feb 21st 2013. Hope it works this time.
In addition, new drivers from AMD are also released. Looks like it's a boatload of new releases. Hope it ends all our problems once and for all.

!!! Headache headache headaches! So I went ahead and installed version 4.3.215.0 dated 2/21/2013 for Windows 7 x64 bit. Result: Windows went back to the original 2.1.0.0 drivers.
Ok, uninstall and delete in safe mode-->restart..ok, unknown device (good)...installed the new driver with Dells driver utility...again..Windows driver 2.1.0.0 installed.
If only Dell really gave an option to extract the files separately, but their option called "extract without installing.... " view the software contents of this update package"--will just give a setup.exe file....no inf files or anything to point to when trying to install the package manually!!
In the windows/inf/ folder I see NO inf made today with any mention about this new driver being installed at all. (5 oem.inf's mentioning the install of the ancient 2.1.0.0.0 driver though)
So, for ME at least this all doesn't work!

gosh! this is ridiculous. i'm sorry to hear that.
I've not installed the latest and having heard from you, I think i'll not do so.
Based on past experiences with these dell windows 8 drivers, i'll adopt the, "if it's ain't spoilt, don't fix it". I'm still using the 2.1.0.0 drivers w/o much apparent problems. It works, but sub-optimally -- think I'll still tolerate legacy drivers and poorer performances. But broken stuff just makes me mad esp. when it's no fault of mine.
And for you dell people in this forum, if you're listening; pls spare us the agony. Even your latest drivers are working sub-optimally. Links are not working, typos in revision history. It's a sad story.

Update: I went ahead and downloaded the 4.4.231.0, A02 drivers (meant for Windows 8) and installed these on my Windows 7 x64, since the Win7 drivers gave me no luck at all.
Now, in device manager I have version 2.2.0.0 dated 6/13/2012 !?
Although I had fixed the issue myself already by using the drivers from Validity, the reason for downloading these newer drivers was that I would prefer Dell drivers on my Dell (duh..) but I suspected the drivers again to NOT be WBF (and so not usable outside of DigitalPersona).
Long story short: The Dell drivers only mention DDK (whatever that means) but no mention of WBF and after installing they will not show the version numbers mentioned on this website. and will also NOT be seen by Windows as WBF...so Roboform or any other application capable of using fingerprint readers won't work (except DigitalPersona).
Everyone, safe yourself time, trouble, agony and what not, download the original Validity drivers here, for Windows 7+8. and you will have everything working 100% in ALL applications supporting fingerprint readers:
1) Download drivers here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=ob-105093-1
This package contains Validity drivers for Windows 7 32+64 bit (can't vouch for Windows 8, but I am pretty positive they will work fine!).
Look at the date: 3/4/2012....funny, Dell drivers mentioned above 6/13/2012 ? (probably to do with the 3 parts mentioned in the doc included in the drivers below)
2) Open the downloaded file SP56957.exe + install/extract it. (default c:\swsetup)
Installing by running the setup in c:\swsetup WON'T work! so, follow the step below:
3) Go to device manager and go to biometric devices-->click on validity driver and choose UPDATE DRIVER-->choose the 2nd option (see picture) and browse to the folder of the extracted package (default c:\swsetup) and tick the box "include subfolders"
And you are done!! Your device manager should show the following:
Now, you will also see that there is a new icon in control panel for Windows Biometric Devices! and you can use it with the program of your choice.
I hope things are clearer....and UNTIL Dell shows more interest in actual replying or telling us what's going on...I won't even touch their "new" AMD video drivers.
My systems works great, Dell made a great laptop and I still feel I made the right choice...HARDWARE wise...support is really...well, enough said about that.
...pffff:)
Cheers!

Thank you very, very much. Got a vostro 3560 and i installed the drivers that i could download for my service tag. Drivers installed fine but no additional software and no biometrics in control panel. So i tried downloading the DigitalPersona software under "My Downloads" where Dell simply stated that my service-tag was invalid. So thanks for making my new Dell hardware work when Dell wasn't able to.
