Vostro 3560 mSATA upgrade question!

Hi!
I was thinking about upgrading my Liteon 32gb mSATA drive on my Vostro for a:
SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-MTE250BW 250GB mSATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

The idea is to use it as a boot drive, with windows and other software installed.
I would be keeping my other drive as storage....

Will it work? Any suggestions or comments?

Thanks!

Hi Leollama,

Yes you can replace the 32GB mSATA drive with larger capacity drive and use it has standlone drive by installing operating system on it and keep the existing mechanical drive for data files. You will need to change the SATA operation from IRST to AHCI in the BIOS and then install the operating system on a larger mSATA drive.

I bought a Vostro 3560 with only a standard hard drive and would like to add a mSATA drive to increase performance.  Is there an easy way to find out if I need to insert a 82PYC card to install a mSATA drive without having to remove all the components as stipulated in the Dell PDF user manual?

Hope somebody can help.

Thanks

Stephen

Hmm...I don't know.
I was sure that I had the card because it came with the lite-on mSATA.

But you will still have to remove all the components to insert the mSATA...I know I did, and it's not very complicated.

Regards!

I did not have a msata ssd installed when purchased. Later I was hoping to add one so I took apart the whole laptop to find there was no socket soldered in. I would think if you didn't order it, you can't add one later without adding part of the internal board.
