Wake from USB and powershare problems
I have a new Inspiron 13Z that does not allow me to wake the computer from sleep via an external keyboard or mouse. I'm running Windows 8 and have set all of the power management wake-up options on the USB devices that I can. Also, the BIOS has been set to enable powershare and USB waking.
In my attempts to solve this problem I plugged in a USB keyboard into the powershare port to verify that it has power when the laptop is sleeping. Instead of a solid green light on the keyboard, the numlock light flases on and off. I thought this was strange so I plugged in a USB-powered LED light. This light also flashes on and off indicating to me that the port isn't providing the steady power needed.
Can someone else confirm this behavior? I'm not sure if just my machine is bad or if all models behave this way.

Hi Brian Vallelunga,
I would like to know if you had purchased the system with 'Windows 8' or was the system shipped with 'Windows 7' and later you upgraded it to 'Windows 8'. I would also like to know if you have done any troubleshooting steps and have you installed the windows updates.
Please do let me know in case of any queries.
Thanks and regards

I also want to note that the USB port provides full power when the laptop is fully off. This appears to be an issue only when sleeping.

Hi Brian Vallelunga,
Updating the latest 'BIOS' should fix the issue. The following link will help you to download the latest 'BIOS'.
http://dell.to/OIrF69
Once you open the link, you will be able to see a list of Inspiron laptop models. Select the right model that you are using and you will be able to see the BIOS option and download the file.
Before installing the 'BIOS', disonnect all external peripherals, connect the AC Adapter and do not use the system until it restarts completely.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know in case of any queries.
Thanks and regards

Thanks, but I've already updated to the latest BIOS and drivers. All troubleshooting that I could do has been done. I upgraded to Windows 8, but did so via a clean install. I've been building computers for 20 years, so I generally know what I'm doing. I'm hoping a later BIOS fixes this problem and that it isn't a hardware issue. If it is, I'm going to need to call and get a fix.

I have this exact same problem on my XPS 17 (L1702x) laptop. Upgraded tot Win8 (clean install), updated bios to latest version (windows 8 compatible).
No PowerShare in sleep mode avaialable, but it does work when the laptop is shut down.
