N is a yet-unstandardized, draft protocol.  You'd be better off with an 802.11b/g adapter - those are standard and much more reliable/interoperable than draft-N.

In any case, draft-N is backward compatible so a 802.11n adapter will connect to any 802.11b/g wireless network/router, and vice versa

In theory that's true.  In practice, the results of using a draft-N card with an 802.11 b/g router are often worse than using a true 802.11 b/g card.

Not always true, draft N network cards often have issues conencting to G networks and will usually not connect to B networks at all.

And G networks cards cannot connect to G networks at all.
