Thanks for the reply... I'm in a bit of dilemma now. The Latitude isn't as far as I can tell available in 17" size. I'll have to think some more on this.
I guess what I should ask now is how the "consumer-grade Insprion/XPS/Vostro series." stacks up against the competition.
The Latitude and Precision series are better-designed and built than the consumer-grade Insprion/XPS/Vostro series.
There's little if any difference between the Inspiron, Vostro and XPS models. They're designed like most notebooks these days - three-years then replace.
Fair comment, I wasn't looking at it from that angle :)
It is hinges + collateral damage that is the demise of my 6yr old Acer Aspire. They always have been so very tight and many failed in 12months (it became a well known issue for that model).
I'm still leaning toward the Vostro having looked a bit more. I have more questions which I will probably post.
